Comparatively Scarce U.S. $2 1/2 “Coronet Liberty” Gold Piece
Only 12.2 million of the 1840-1907 U.S. “Coronet Liberty” $2 1/2 gold coin were struck over seven decades. That’s vastly fewer than the $5, $10 and $20 Liberty gold coins of the same period — and even lower than the short-lived 1849-1854 “Coronet Liberty” gold dollar’s total mintages. The Christian Gobrecht Liberty personification obverse and Eagle with Shield reverse are great classics in American minting history. Sharply detailed Extra Fine.
